You take one actress of “Harry Potter” fame, a piano accordion, excellent musicians, then add a little touch of theatrical Burlesque–stir it up, shake, and voila! Natalia Tena and her five piece band, Molotov Jukebox, add a shot of Gypsy spirit, then create their own potent blend with a mix of original compositions with Americana and Jazz.
Natalia Tena, front woman of Molotov Jukebox, was born in London. Her first influences were American early Rock ‘n’ Roll pioneer, Chuck Berry, and her mother from whom she learned to play the piano. Natalia’s mother is from the Extremadura region of Spain and her father is Basque. “My love of music comes from as long as I remember. I begged my mum to learn piano for a year when I was 4, she wanted to make sure I was serious and I wanted to be Chuck Berry when I grew up! We were a very musical family, my mum would play guitar and her, my dad and aunt would sing and harmonize!” After she graduated from boarding school in the U.K., she returned to London to work in theater in the London Underground and started out busking. In her association with a theater group, “KneeHigh”, while in a stage production called Nights at the Circus, she was allowed to pick a musical instrument to learn. With her background in piano she easily segued to the piano accordion.
Natalia made her professional debut as Ellie in 2002 in About a Boy, then began acting full time, the next year. She played lead roles on stage in Gone to Earth in 2004, and Nights at the Circus in 2006. Since then, her resume has expanded to include the film adaptations of four Harry Potter works, Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, 2007, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, 2009, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part I, 2010, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part II, in 2011.
Other film credits are as the lead role in the Scottish film, You Instead, in 2011. In 2015, Natalia Tena starred in the British mini-series, Residue, as Jennifer Preston and in 2017, she played Sara Morten in the CBS drama Wisdom of the Crowd. She currently plays the character, Osha in the HBO production, Game of Thrones.
